I found a couple of nice downloads today.

Complacency Kills** - Joe Sacco goes to Iraq for the weekend and writes / illustrates this short story for the Guardian.
**This file is large - 36Mb
Joe Sacco also has a piece in the current issue of Granta, #89.
The second free download is a comic version of Chuck Palahniuk's Invisible Monsters.
This was actually done by a fan of Chuck's who now has a comic version of "Lullaby" that is part way finished. This is also posted on Chuck's website, otherwise know as the Cult.
The Comic Gods Are Smiling!

Ice Haven by Daniel Clowes
Publisher: Pantheon Books

War's End by Joe Sacco
Publisher: Drawn & Quarterly
As if my wallet wasn't empty enough, the heavyweights of the graphic novel business are in full production. Both Daniel Clowes and Joe Sacco have new books out this week.
Clowes it best known for his comic Eightball and Ghost World. Ghost World was made into a movie in 2000 and starred Thora Birch, Scarlett Johansson and Steve Buscemi. It was directed by Terry Zwigoff who also directed Crumb and Bad Santa.
Ice Haven is a fictitious town whose inhabitants feature some of Clowes classic loners, misguided thugs, complainers and the sexually confused.
Joe Sacco's "War's End" is from a completely different world than Ice Haven. As usual Sacco blends journalism and graphics mixed with personal tales of time spent in Bosnia during the past 10 years ago.
Sacco shows the turmoil of war and how it affected both sides. As usual he delivers a fresh slant that you just don't get from mainstream war reporters.
Guys Read
My local Library, St. Anthony Village, is having a Guys Read event on Thursday, July 14th at 3p.m.
Just Keep Reading
I'm not sure if it is all the folks trying to read 52 books in 52 weeks or if it is just all of my downtime but I have been reading like a maniac lately.
In the last 2 months I have read:
- Haunted - Chuck Palahniuk
- Diary - Chuck Palahniuk
- All In My Head - Paula Kamen
- No Place To Hide - Robert O'Harrow, Jr.
- White Noise - Don DeLillo
- The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street - Helene Hanff
- Essential Murakami - Haruki Murakami
Health Update
I'm back to working just a few hours per week. The headaches have come on real strong in the last couple of months. If I don't write you back or return phone calls right away please be patient or call me again.
On the upside, when I do have a headache free day I like to make the most of it. I've been spending a lot of time at the Walker Art Center, Micawbers Books, Big Brain Comics, Dunn Brother's on Como, Audubon Coffee on Johnson and the St. Anthony Library.
Also the garden is really coming along nicely. Lisa has really worked hard (just like the Bush team), and there is nothing like a morning on the patio.
