Happy Moon Walking Day

It was 37 years ago today and I still want to be Neil Armstrong when I grow up.

NYC2123

The free web comic NYC2123 finished up last week and you should go read it.

As for what it is about, well lets just say there is the mob and corporations and drugs and religions and hackers and cyborg street thugs. You know, all the things that I normally read about. The thing I like about this is the illustrations. Everything is black with white drawings and occasionally color will be thrown in just for effect. It is subtle, but it really works.

What I didn't like about this is that it is about the 30th book/movie/comic that has a setting of post apochalyptic New York that is isolated from the rest of the world and has evolved into dystopian sociaty.

Read the first chapter, it takes all of 3 minutes. If you like it carry on.

Coleman Switches Sides Again!

Minnesota Senator Norm Coleman who early in his political career switched from being a Democrat to a Republican has again announced a stunning change of political philosophies.

Coleman has gone from being the political bobble head of Carl Rove to now being the direct voice of the people. He is seen above with new allie and crop share partner Hugo Chavez.

That's right, he is now a Commie. He has apologized for the last 15 years of his life and is now anti-globalism, anti-corporate and a die hard green.

Go figure.

Superman Returns, but then doesn’t leave.

While in LA we went to see Superman on one of the enormo-screens. I think there were 9 people at this showing. The movie was almost as bad as A.I. or the final Matrix movie. We should have went to see Click.

Anyhow, here is a much more entertaining story about Superman as told by Kevin Smith.

Watch the video here.

The Belles of the Bowl

Our second night, in LA, we went to the Hollywood Bowl and saw Belle and Sebastian play with the L. A. Philharmonic. The show was amazing. I am a huge fan of their first 3 albums but then thought their next couple were hit and miss. The new album, The Life Pursuit has completely restored my faith in them.

Now as it turns out the bulk of this concert was played from the very albums that I thought were lacking a bit. But now played with the full orchestra they were alive and huge. I have made a play list from their set list and I absolutely love all the songs.

Sure I was a bit disappointed that they only performed 1 song from their latest album but that is not what this show was about. It was about fulfilling the ideas of songs they had written and were never able to perform to their fullest potential.

The warm up group was the Shins and they were very good but I think I would have liked them more in a much smaller venue.

Here is Belle and Sebastian's Set list:

'Fuck This Shit'
'I Fought In A War'
'Le Pastie De La Bourgeoisie'
'The Model'
'Sukie In The Graveyard'
'Don't Leave The Light On, Baby'
'I'm Waking Up To Us'
'Jonathan David'
'If She Wants Me'
'Lord Anthony'
'Dear Catastrophe Waitress'
'If You're Feeling Sinister'
'Your Cover's Blown'
'Dirty Dream Number Two'
'I'm A Cuckoo'
'The Wrong Girl'
'If You Find Yourself Caught In Love'
'Sleep The Clock Around'
'The State I Am In'
'The Boy With The Arab Strap'

Los Angeles, California

So one day last spring Lisa called me and asked if I wanted to go to L.A.. I said sure and that was that.

Well the trip finally happened and we had a wonderful vacation. I hadn't been there during my adult life and all that I remembered from my youth was seeing the actor who portrayed Oscar Goldman in the Six Million Dollar Man.

We stayed at Bed & Breakfast, minus the breakfast. If you are in need of a nice place to stay try them out. The house is in Silver Lake 1 block off where Santa Monica merges in with Sunset. There are many fine restaurants in the neighborhood and like most of L. A. there are a ton of boutiques.
