Nothing a little nail gun won’t take care of.
The wait is over. The Wire is back on and season 4 opened with a dozy. Slim Charles and Bodie don't know what to do with their corners quieter than the city morgue. They might have the package from Prop Joe but Marlo and his Boys rule the corners.
Marlo knows that keeping the morgue quiet will keep the cops off him and he has Chris and Snoop taking care of that. That's where the little shopping trip to Home Depot comes in.
But this season's all about the young ones.
In The Neighborhood
I've tooted the horn about the comic book Local before, but again it comes through. Last week issue six hit the stands and you should track it down.
The premise of Local is that it follows a girl named Megan as she moves around the county. Each issue takes place in a different city. This issue is Brooklyn NY. Megan is not always the main character but she is always connected to the story.
The Characters of the comic are people you've probably had as roommates, friends or co-workers. They all seem to have interesting flaws and in the end you know that something will happen that causes Megan to just move on.
Local is written by Brian Wood and drawn by Ryan Kelly (of St. Paul). It is put out bi-monthly by Oni Comics
Merry Christmas, War is Over
Back in early June I wrote about an online graphic novel called Shooting War. They just finished the story so you can now go over and read the whole thing. The good news is that the story held up til the end.

CALIFONE
My friends in Califone return to the spinning platter shortly. They have a new CD entitled "Roots & Crowns" coming out on October the 10th.
Now I have heard 2 of these songs and I might as well say that I love them. The first song that I heard is called The Orchids and is a cover of a Psychic TV song. If you are only aware of Psychic TV by their 175 or so live albums then you should go out and find their first 3 albums. This song is off of Dreams Less Sweet which is my favorite of the 3 albums
The second song is called Spiders House and is another great melodic song. Like all great Califone songs both of these fall into that sound that is reminiscent of just falling asleep, where nothing and everything makes sense.
You can find these songs in the following locations.
The Orchids - on the Stereogum.com website
Spiders House - on the Pitchfork websiteAs always Califone can be found at pastrysharp.com
Also watch for tour dates on their website. They are playing all over this big old country during the fall of 2006!
