Please, keep track of you feet

The severed feet that are washing up on the shores of British Columbia are getting more bizarre. The comments on newspapers websites get wilder the further this story goes.

Google Map of where the feet washed ashore.

Here is the chronological order of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police investigation:

The first foot was located on August 20, 2007 on Jedidiah Island. It was found by a father and his 12-year-old daughter who were visiting from the United-States while they were cruising on their boat. A search of the area produced no other human remains. The shoe is a “Campus” brand running shoe, primarily white with blue mesh and is believed to be a size 12. It was determined that it was produced in 2003 and distributed primarily in India.

The second shoe was located August 26, 2007 on Gabriola Island and was found by a resident walking on a trail. This shoe is a men’s “Reebok” running shoe primarily white in color and is a size 12. It was produced in 2004 and was distributed globally mostly in North America. It was first available on March 1, 2004 and is no longer available for purchase.

The third shoe was located on February 8, 2008 by two forest workers on Valdez Island. A subsequent search of the area produced no other remains. This shoe is a men’s blue and white “Nike” running shoe and is a size 11. It was produced in 2003 and sold in Canada and the United States from February 1 to June 30, 2003.

The fourth foot was located on May 22, 2008 on Kirkland Island by the Island’s caretaker who discovered the foot while out for a walk along the shoreline. It is a women’s blue and white “New Balance” running shoe, size 7. It was produced in June 1999 and distributed through major retail stores.

The fifth foot was located on Westham Island on June 16, 2008 and as per Jeff Dolan’s statement it matches the the 3rd foot and shoe.

My Cousin Bill

Below is an article about my cousin Bill who had a fatal motorcycle accident on Saturday. He was 29 years old and his wife Mary is due to have a baby in about 3 weeks. Bill was my youngest cousin on my Mom's side of the family. He is the son of my Mom's youngest sister Kathy.

Truly this is very tragic and sad. Bill was always a happy and carefree guy. He was very much like my Aunt Kathy.

When he was 6 months old he was diagnosed with cancer and his family was told that he had very little chance to survive. My Aunt stayed at our house for about 6 months while little Billy went through treatment. Because he was so young they had to keep him in the hospital.

When he was finally given the all clear and allowed to move home he was about half the size of his identical twin brother Charlie. It took about 4 years and he caught back up to Charlie and you could barely tell them apart.

His cancer never returned.

In the last couple of years he had surgery for a major heart defect and things looked real bad. He made it through that episode and the last time I saw him, July 2007, he was working 2 jobs and always looking for side work.

Please keep Bill's wife Mary in your thoughts and also his brother Charlie who is going through an especially tough ordeal.

Austin motorcyclist dies in hospital following crash

GRAND MEADOW -- A motorcyclist from rural Austin died this afternoon after crashing in a ditch Saturday along a county road north of Grand Meadow.

William Ryan Koenigs, 29, of rural Austin, died at Saint Marys Hospital, according to a Mayo Clinic spokeswoman.

The crash occurred in a ditch along Mower County Road 2 in Grand Meadow Township at about 12:45 p.m. Saturday. Koenigs was unconscious and had a head injury when authorities arrived at the scene.

A Mayo Clinic helicopter landed on County Road 2 and flew Koenigs to Saint Marys Hospital.

The motorcycle traveled 160 feet in the ditch from where it left County Road 2, according a Mower County Sheriff's Office report. The crash occurred in the 26300 block of 710th Avenue, where County Road 2 curves to the north before heading east again.

Koenigs' twin brother, Charles Koenigs, 29, of McIntire, Iowa, told a deputy that he was following his brother at 55 mph to 60 mph when William Koenigs lost control of his motorcycle.

A 55-year-old man working in the eastern ditch across from the crash site saw the motorcycle enter the ditch and roll a couple of times.

A deputy found some bird feathers stuck in between the front-left shock and fender of Koenigs' motorcycle.

City Pages 2008 Comix Issue

What the City Pages misses in lost writers they make up for in their yearly comix issue. This time they celebrate the upcoming Republican National Convention.

The CP's website contains many comics not published in the paper. Quality stuff all around.

The man sticking it to the man.

The head of the FCC is recommending that they punish Comcast Cable for its practices of controlling network traffic.

The FCC is finally doing something in the right direction but I am sure this will be a slap on the wrist and then they will let Comcast carry on with their practices.

Our Canadian neighbors are hoping that this will move their own version of the FCC into similar action.

It has been suggested that Comcast's customers should respond by having a upload / download day, where everyone moves as many files as they possibly can via non-bittorrent or file sharing software. If every customer signed up and then uploaded their files to a free backup site it would bring Comcast to its knees.

Designing For A Tuxedo

If you love Penguin books as much as I do, then you will love the site of designer David Pearson.

His work on the Great Ideas series has been a personal favorite of mine lately. Watch for Great Ideas Series III coming this fall.

Here are three from Series II

His designs are beautiful as a single edition but when you look at them as the entire series they really shine.

Here are three from the Zulma series.

Finally for the love of all things Penguin:

If you can track it down (not available in the US), he also did the cover for Seven Hundred Penguins. This is a celebration of all the beautiful covers that graced Penguin books throughout the 20th century. Call a friend in Canada and ask them to buy it for your birthday. Better yet, go on a vacation to Canada or England where it is available.
