LA’s MoCA is in financial trouble.

One my favorite institutions, LA's Museum of Contemporary Art is in financial trouble. This even after one of it's most successful exhibit ever of the art of Takashi Murakami. One of there problems is that they foolishly gave the exhibit the rights to open a Louis Vutton store in the middle of the exhibit and then didn't get a cut of the sales. Murakami has developed a line of items for Louis Vutton.

E-mini cooper = 0 emissions, Yeah Right
This week at the LA Auto Show the all new electric Mini Cooper was unveiled. BMW dubs it the Mini E. I was curious so I went to their web site and there staring at me was a statistic that said CO2 Emission = 0. So I am guessing that these crazy Germans are giving away free wind or solar devices along with the price of the car. But no this isn't the case. The sad part is that most consumers will believe that there is no CO2 created when they use their electric car.

Now here is an idea that is closer to emission free driving

Of course what BMW doesn't include in the zero emisions is that you still have to manufacture the car, mine for the materials, replace batteries, create electricity, upgrade the electrical in your garage.
With the self powered car you still have all of those things and very little options for heaters/air conditioning. Maybe we need to look at bamboo and pedals.
Internet Video Starts to Get Real but What About Original Content?
Video content is starting to explode all over the internet and you can almost get your entire TV fix without ever turning on the boob-tube.
It was announce today that YouTube would soon carry full length MGM films. Another consistent source is NetFlix's online streaming site that only gets better with time.
Personally I think that Hulu is probably the best and easiest to use service but what about original online content. Networks, cable channels and advertising firms are all trying to get in on original content. Here is some of what I am watching:
Gemini Division - sci-fi from NBC starring Rosario Dawson
The Dark Path Chronicles, 30 Days of Night : Blood Trails ,30 Days of Night : Dust to Dust, Buried Alive and Devil's Trade - online horror from Fearnet.
Afterworld - An earlier Sci-Fi offering from the producers of Gemini Division.
Tom Green Channel - Talk Show
IFC Web Series - Many short series.
The Guild - Awarding winning short series
subMedia - subversive anarchy with a great sense of humor.
the Uptake - community reporting the streams politcal coverage live.

Later with Jools Holland

Over the past few years I have become addicted to watching the BBC's Later with Jools Holland. This past week was particularly good as he had Monkeys (Damon Arben's new project), Al Green, Fleet Foxes, the Killers, Marc Almond and a few other.
You can watch the show on it's website, but I highly reccomend you find a bittorent because ones posted are of such fine quality. They only keep shows online for a week so you must check back every week.
If you haven't seen his show it is filmed in a large TV studio with the bands all facing each other in a large rectangle. Jools walks around and randomly introduces groups and occasionally he sits down and shares a pint and a chat with one of the artists.
It is truely unique in the dull formula ridden world of television.
My list of 2008 Election Favorites
California is going to get high speed rail between LA and San Fran. I'm usually against constitutional amendments as a rule, except when it grants more freedom to people who have been unfairly limited by legislation. This one at least does something very positive.
Newsweek's behind the scenes election roundup. 7 parts and 50 pages of meaty details.
Bible beater turns spoiler in the heart of MN Christian country. Democrat Lisa Fobbe wins MN Senate seat. Mark Olson's write in candidacy played perfectly into the hands of the DFL.
The reversal of many many Bush executive orders. also here. I personally think they should all be overturned. This act skips the legislative process and gives direct unchecked power to the President.
Massachusetts' passes laws to reduce marijuana offender punishment. This should be looked at on a national level. Unfortunately California defeated a similar amendment. Again this should be state legislation and not an amendment.
