Product Managers are what Art is all about.
Sunday's New York Times had and article, The Debutante's Ball, and it gave me the heebee-geebees. It was about the process of selling a new artist to the art world. To me it just sounds like the music business.
The story brought back many memories of freinds who had record contracts with "Major" labels and the entire bullshit process they went through on the way up and down.
The artist in the NY Times article, Ted Mineo, is young, excited, scared, gung ho and worried he is selling out. My only hope is that the NY Times will do the peice on how everyone gets their cut before Ted sees a dime.
My advice to Ted, enjoy the meals, the trips and when you meet a guy whose title is "product manager", run away very fast because you have found the beast.
